What we could accomplish with greater resources
The NYC ACT-SO program is chronically underfunded and is operated entirely by volunteers. In the first instance, the program requires money to run simply as it does today. Beyond this need, with additional funds the organizations could hire professional staff which would improve every aspect of NYC ACT-SO. Specifically, each high school in the city could be monitored, recruitment of coaches and judges could be enhanced. Additionally, the organization might be in a position to provide other services, such as job referral to students.
NYC ACT-SO is frequently unable to provide support to students proposing technical projects. As an example, it is difficult to secure lab facilities for students competing in the sciences, or video equipment for filmmakers. With greater resources we could address these dificiencies
