About NYC ACT-SO Team

Anton Tomlinson
President & CEO
Mr. Tomlinson is a former Systems Analyst for the investment bankers of Salomon Brothers which was later named Salomon Smith-Barney. He joined Salomon Brothers in 1978 from Weeden and Company where he was a Programmer Analyst. A native of Jamaica, West Indies, Mr. Tomlinson migrated to the U.S. in 1964. Mr. Tomlinson spent two years at New York City Community College in Brooklyn where he majored in Mechanical Engineering and later earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at Brooklyn College. (CUNY). Mr. Tomlinson has been very active in community affairs, serving as president and co-founder of The Union of Jamaican Alumni Association, USA Inc. (UJAA); and Co-developer and Chairman of the New York City Chapter of ACT-SO.

Barbara Richards (nee Denis)
1st Vice Chair

A native of Jamaica, West Indies, Barbara Dennis-Richards migrated to the U.S.A. at an early age. She is a graduate of the City College of New York where she obtained a BA in Social Sciences and worked for several years in the field of social work. She also earned a master’s degree in education from that institution in 1973 and earned a Master Degree English Education from New York University. Mrs. Richards taught briefly in the New York City Public Schools and later worked as a Lecturer in Developmental reading and English at New York City Technical College (CUNY). Her academic activities included curriculum development in reading and English and tutor training in developmental reading in the College’s Learning Center.

Karlene Largie
Secretary

Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Karlene Samuel Largie was also a member of Jamaica’s National Dance Theatre Company before migrating to the U.S. in 1970 to further her education. She attended New York City Community College in Brooklyn and Pace University in Manhattan. Ms. Largie was an Operations Manager at JPMorgan Chase before she left as a Vice President in Cash Management Operations after 32 plus years. She is very active in the New York community where she is currently the President of the Union of Jamaican Alumni Associations of Jamaica, (USA) Inc. She has been an ACT-SO volunteer since 1996 and is currently the Secretary and Dance Coach.

Stacey Reis
Assistant Secretary

Ms. Reis has been a Bank Regulator with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation for the past six years. She has also worked as an Investment Banking Associate at Citigroup and as a Senior Accounting Representative at Bloomberg LP. She earned a B.S. in Psychology and minored in Biology at the City College of New York. She is an alumna of the ACT-SO program where she participated and won a medal for her Chemistry project. She has served in several capacities with the program as an outreach coordinator and facilitator.

Othley Laundry
Treasurer

Mr. Laundry is an accomplished financial services professional with more than 25 years of added value and expertise in all facets of auditing, including ERISA plans, treasury service and commercial transactions; identifies, evaluates, selects, and executes the appropriate options to drive company valuation in internal corporate controls and risk reviews. He has expertise in Sarbanes Oxley, SAS 70, and SysTrust. Othley Laundry is a proactive leader with an aptitude for building processes, systems and models that increase operational efficiencies. He has demonstrated: a methodical and consistent career history demonstrating performance and growth;  a progressive experience in both public and private sectors; an overall integrity of accounting and financial systems and an
impeccable integrity and work ethic.


Mr. Laundry has been associated with New York City
ACT-SO chapter for the past 13 years as a parent, Treasurer, Science and Math coach.

Rolande Brammer
Executive Director
Roland O. Brammer is a multi-talented individual who has worked in a variety of fields including Corporate Finance and Communications for over 20 years.  As the owner of two Subway franchises, in 2007 he was awarded the coveted Regional Franchisee of the Year (RFY) Award by Doctor's Associate, the parent company of Subway Restaurants, LLC.  

A former Assistant Editor at the Gleaner Company-USA for many years, Roland is a two time gold medal award winning journalist with New York Association of Black Journalists (NYABJ).  Mr. Brammer worked at Merrill-Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith in Plainsboro, in the early 90's, moving from there to Morgan Stanley. Roland has found the time to work pro bono as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for New York City Act-SO and also as its Executive Director.   He is currently the chairman of ACT-SO for the Brooklyn branch which is the largest in New York State.  For his time and dedication to ACT-SO he was awarded a Congressional Citation as well as commendation from the New York City Council.  Mr. Brammer continues to give of his time and expertise in a number of capacities as a board member of several Community based organizations for over 18 years, especially in the areas of Health and Social Services.

Christina Sparrock
Director of Finance
Offering two decades of extensive experience in the area of accounting, audit, and financial management,  Ms. Sparrock served as the Chief Financial Officer and Controller of the New York Theological Seminary.  She was appointed to the role of CFO in 2009 after serving over a year as Controller.  Prior to joining NYTS, she held a multitude of roles at Geller & Company, a client service accounting firm. As a Sarbanes Oxley Auditor, she drafted the policies and procedures, assessed risks and tested the effectiveness of the internal controls for many of the firm’s clients. As a Forensic Accountant, she assisted clients in detecting and preventing fraud in their businesses.  Ms. Sparrock worked at News Corporations and her drive led her from FOX- Twentieth Television as Senior Financial Analyst and Finance Supervisor in 2002 to the New York Post, where she served as the Production Accountant until 2004.  After receiving a Certificate in Advanced Excel and Visual Basics from New Horizons, she  developed the financial models and templates for each business unit of the New York Post. After the passing of the Sarbanes- Oxley Act, Ms. Sparrock was promoted to Sarbanes- Oxley Compliance Manager of the New York Post.

Carol Parker-Duncanson, MS
Program Leader

A graduate of the City University of New York with a BS from Hunter College and a MS from Queens College, Carol Parker worked as a nutritionist in multiple capacities.  Her experience in clinical nutrition, food service management and teaching prepared her for her current role in community nutrition at Cornell University Cooperative Extension. As a Program Leader for Cornell Cooperative Extension-NYC, Carol Parker provides leadership to the Nutrition and Health Program Area in NYC.  This involves long term strategic planning, program management, fund development, program development, evaluation, coordination of several nutrition and health programs for limited resource families (primarily SNAP-ed, EFNEP and Farmers Market Nutrition Education program) and coordination of special projects in collaboration with community-based organizations that serve pregnant and parenting adolescents and breastfeeding mothers.  She works closely with the program and administrative leadership and Cornell University faculty to develop and implement many large scale community based nutrition programs, develop nutrition education training program, conduct multiple training sessions for both paraprofessional and professional nutrition and health educators, both within and outside the organization and  present at professional conferences.
